Software Listing: X Ray Viewer
- X-ray Image Enhance
- License: Shareware

An empirically derived routine for bringing out the thread detail in canvases. An example x-ray image (histogram equalized raw.tif) illustrates the problem of manually counting canvas threads for painting forensics. Paint, cracks, and shadows make it difficult to easily discern the cross-hatched weaving of the canvas threads. The min & max functions could be recast as morphological operations, erode & dilate.

- HIS Image File Format Reader
- License: Shareware

Function to read the HIS file format used by PerkinElmer XIS X-ray imaging software. The other exportable file formats in XIS either had no support in Matlab, produced non-standard files which imread could not properly interpret, or truncated the intensity range. It turned out the native HIS file format was quite simple, and I was able to reverse engineer it enough to get the data out I needed. It has only been tested with HIS files created by XIS v. 3.2.0.41. It should work for all image sizes, although I have only tested it with 1024x1024. Because of this, it might have the rows/columns order mixed up.

Package PhotonAttenuation2 provides set of functions for modeling of photons (x-ray, gamma-ray, etc.), passing through different materials. The tools are based on attenuation and energy absorption coefficients of photons in various materials. The tables of absorption coefficients were copied from NIST and embedded in the MATLAB code. Package consist of 4 functions: PhotonAttenuation - the main function returning variuos physical quantaties for photons of various energies passing through different materials of different thickness PhotonAttenuationQ - the helper function providing bare-bones access to NIST tables hardwired into the code.

- STXM Spectromicroscopy Particle Analysis Routines
- License: Shareware

An automated data analysis method for atmospheric particles using scanning transmission X-ray microscopy coupled with near edge X-ray fine structure spectroscopy (STXM/NEXAFS). This method is applied to complex internally mixed submicron particles containing organic and inorganic material. Several algorithms were developed to exploit NEXAFS spectral features in the energy range from 278-320 eV for quantitative mapping of the spatial distribution of elemental carbon, organic carbon, potassium, and non-carbonaceous elements in particles of mixed composition. This energy range encompasses the carbon K-edge and potassium L2 and L3 edges.

This is a Matlab translation of the well known 'mucal' elemental x-ray properties calculation routines written by Pathikrit Bandyopadhyay in Fortran and ported to C by Boyan Boyanov. More information on the original programs can be found on the Centre for Synchrotron Radiation Research and Instrumentation site here: http://www.csrri.iit.edu/mucal.html The interface to the Matlab version of the basic routines is through a GUI called XRayCalc. The interface was designed for Users at the Imaging and Medical Beam line at the Australian Synchrotron, hence the title. It allows a user to select an element from the left hand scrolling text box, and type an x-ray energy into the edit box in the centre of the figure.
