The Birds of Paradise are the most lusciously coloured and elegant family of birds. They are natives of Papua New Guinea and the Aro Islands. This screensaver contains 48 images from two of the most magnificent books of ornithological art produced in the 19th century : Daniel Elliot's A Monograph of the Birds of Paradise (1873), and John Gould's Monograph of the Birds of Paradise (1891-1898). Elliot worked closely with renowned animal artist Joseph Wolf who drew the illustrations in Elliot's book. Gould's close associate, artist Richard Sharpe, completed Gould's work on the Birds of Paradise after Gould died.

This screensaver contains 40 images of parrots, parakeets, lories and cockatoos from William Thomas Greene's - Parrots in Captivity. Parrots in Captivity was published in three volumes. Volumes one and two were issued in eighteen parts in 1883. Volume three was issued in 1887. The illustrations were done by Alexander F. (Frank) Lydon. Master woodblock printer, Benjamin Fawcett, used the illustrations to make engravings for the final colored prints. W. T. Greene provided the text for the book. Kingfishers and Kookaburras Screensaver presents images from Richard Bowdler Sharpe's ornithological book, Family of Kingfishers, published from 1868 to 1871. Only two-hundred copies of Famiy of Kingfishers were ever printed. It is extremely rare. Richard Bowdler Sharpe began work on A Monograph of The Alcedinidae, or Family of Kingfishers, when he was 17 years old. John Gould supplied specimens for the work, and John G. Keulemans, the extraordinary Dutch wildlilfe painter and illustrator, drew the 140 kingfisher plates included in the book. Keulemans was highly productive and reliable. For 30 years he produced more bird paintings than any contemporary, published in over a hundred major bird books and journals.
