The codes in two files generate time and frequency domain representation of three basic types of amplitude modulation i>Double SideBand Amplitude Modulation (Full Carrier) (DSBAM) ii>Double SideBand Suppressed Carrier (DSBSC) iii>Single SideBand (SSB) The message signals used are combination of sinusoids of different frequency. Most authors use single tone modulation so give the initial concepts, but rarely do any one of them go beyond than. I believe the multi tone modulation representation will help in visualizing how AM will work in case of voice modulation, which certainly is composed of number of harmonics.

- Generate FM noise sidebands on a carrier using randn fn
- License: Freeware

The file calculates and plots FM noise sidebands for a carrier. It also does sinusoidal modulation. This simple way of adding noise to a carrier is useful for simulation of PLLs. It turns out, though, that the mean of the randn function is not as close to zero as it could be, and this causes the fft to generate extra sideband energy, which makes it appear as if the noise is not what would be expected. This program gets around this by adding a fudge factor to the randn results to eliminate this problem. It took me ages to figure this out, I hope to reduce a similar effort for others..

- SPIDER simulation

This script simulates an electromagnetic pulse, a spectral phase interferometry for direct electric field reconstruction (SPIDER) measurement and reconstruction and compares it to the true electric field in time in the presence of noise (additive, multiplicative, quantative and in the delay). Play about with different values of the noise, different pulse parameters and compare the different reconstruction algorithms. Remember to change the filter to extract the complete sideband if you change the pulse to be measured..

- LO Sideband with spurs converted to Jitter
- License: Freeware

This program converts the noise sidebands to power, adds in an estimate of the power for CW spurs, then calculates the jitter from this. It is not really exact, but it is simple and allows for an easy estimate of the jitter and phase noise without special tools..
