- Marcus Aurelius Aphorisms
- License: Freeware

Marcus Aurelius (Latin: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus;[1][notes 1] 26 April 121 AD – 17 March 180 AD) was a Roman Emperor from 161 to 180. He ruled with Lucius Verus as co-emperor from 161 until Verus' death in 169. He was the last of the Five Good Emperors, and is also considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers.
During his reign, the Empire defeated a revitalized Parthian Empire in the East; Aurelius' general Avidius Cassius sacked the capital Ctesiphon in 164. In central Europe, Aurelius fought the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians with success during the Marcomannic Wars, with the threat of the Germanic tribes beginning to represent a troubling reality for the Empire.

- Interactive Fourier Filter
- License: Freeware

A fourier filter for time-series signals. Version 1.5, May 4, 2007, is calibrated specifically for time-based signals. Does not require the Signal Processing Toolbox. By adjusting the parameters, you can create lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and bandreject (notch) filters with variable cut-off rate. There is an interactive version with sliders that allows you to adjust the filter parameters continuously while observing the effect on your signal dynamically. See: http://www.wam.umd.edu/~toh/spectrum/Inter...urierFilter.htm for more information. (Thanks to Matthew Jones for the slider function.).

- Diffraction grating
- License: Freeware

A collection of m-files aimed at learning and teaching about the principles of diffraction gratings. Some of these show a cross section of the geometry of a diffraction grating, a common illustration in textbooks of optics, spectroscopy, and analytical chemistry. Sliders on the figures allow real-time interactive control of the incidence angle, grating ruling density (lines/mm), wavelength, and diffraction order. Others demonstrate how grating operation arises from the interference of reflections from multiple grooves. For more details, see http://www.wam.umd.edu/~toh/models/matlab/...tionGrating.

- Method for quantitative absorption spectroscopy
- License: Freeware

A computational method for quantitative analysis by multiwavelength absorption spectroscopy, called the Tfit method, based on fitting a model of the instrumentally-broadened transmission spectrum to the observed transmission data. It has the advantages of wider dynamic range and greatly improved calibration linearity, compared to conventional methods. Run DemoTFit.m to see how it works. Several other demos are included to allow exploration of the capabilities and limitations of this method. See http://www.wam.umd.edu/~toh/spectrum/TFit.html for more details. (Thanks to Matthew Jones for the slider function.

- Interactive Resolution Enhancement
- License: Freeware

Mathematically simple, quickly- computable resolution enhancement for time-series signals consisting of partially overlapping peaks. It is based on subtracting the scaled, smoothed 2nd derivative and adding the scaled, smoothed 4th derivative to the original signal. The algorithm can be customized for signals of different types by adjusting the scaling factors for the derivatives and the width of the smoothing function. The routines here have sliders that allow you to adjust the resolution enhancement parameters continuously while observing the effect on your signal dynamically. See http://www.

nteractive smoothing for time-series signals, with sliders that allow you to adjust the smoothing parameters continuously while observing the effect on your signal dynamically. Run SmoothSliderTest to see how it works. Can be used with any smoothing function, but two fast smooth functions are included. Details are in the text file SmoothSliderInfo.txt. See http://terpconnect.umd.edu/~toh/spectrum/Smoothing.html for more information about smoothing. Tom O'Haver, toh@umd.edu, July 2006. Slider function by Matthew Jones..

- MATLAB Contest - Mastermind
- License: Freeware

The fourth MATLAB™ Programming Contest, Mastermind™, ran from September 17-21, 2001. The challenge was to write an algorithm to solve a variation of the classic Mastermind puzzle. Each entry did its best to determine unknown sequences of colored pegs. This submission includes all the files needed to develop and score an entry, including the test suite we kept secret during the contest. For more information, refer to http://www.mathworks.com/ contest Nabeel Azar, Matthew Simoneau, and Ned Gulley were the biggest contributors to this code..

function ire(x, signal) Interactive resolution enhancement function for data in the arguments "x,signal". Displays sliders for real-time control of 2nd and 4th derivative weighting factors (factor and factor2) and smooth width. (Larger values of factor1 and factor2 will reduce the peak width but will cause artifacts in the baseline near the peak. Adjust the factors for the the best compromise.) Use the minimum smooth width needed to reduce excess noise. You can adjust the slider ranges in lines 33-35. Declares global variables IREDATA and IREPARAMETERS. Filtered signal is returned in IREDATA(3,:,:), so declare IREDATA as global before calling ire.
