SterJo Startup Patrol Editor's Review
No matter how new or old your computer is, you will never be immune from those annoying slowdowns! The sad fact is, a month into using your brand new system, it may start to feel just as slow as the old one. There is one major question that springs to mind when I see people with this kind of scenario – what’s running in the background? The majority of the time, a lot of people do not even realise how many applications automatically open themselves as you log on, and continue to run throughout the time you’re using your system. These applications that don’t need to be open slow down your system and drain system resources. SterJo Startup Patrol provides the ability to check to see what’s opening automatically at start up, and change this.
At first glance, SterJo Startup Patrol actually looks like a legacy application – something you might see running on a Windows 95 or Windows 98 based system. However, I had no problems at all running it on Windows 8 64bit, therefore the designers must have just gone for a simplistic and clear look. It looks almost like the Windows Task Manager with a file menu and toolbar at the top, and a status bar at the bottom. The middle space is used to list all the applications that are set to automatically run at start up, including their file location, section, status, product name, size, creation date, and much more information.
It’s very easy to make changes to the start up process, whether that be disabling or deleting items, or adding in new ones. You can select an item from the list and the use the buttons from above to change it, or alternatively right click on an item and use the context menu. If you have an application you know you use regularly and every time your computer opens, you can use the green + button to add it to the startup list. For example, this could be your web browser or email client. Once you’ve made changes, you can refresh the list to check what actions have been performed. I would personally only disable items instead of deleting them, as this would make the restore process a lot easier if something went wrong.
SterJo Startup Patrol is a very easy and simple application to use, in comparison to some other start up managers I have seen. There is no majorly complex terminology used not unnecessary functions, making this useable by almost all computer users with average levels of experience. It seems like a simple and free way to speed up your system, without running time consuming system optimization tools or malware scans. Overall, I’d rate SterJo Startup Patrol 4/5.
