Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is known as the Red Planet due to its reddish appearance as seen from Earth. Saturn is a large gas planet with an atmosphere composed of hydrogen and helium. It has the lowest density of any planet in our solar system. In fact its density is so low that it would float if it was placed in water! Visually, Saturn is flattened at the poles, due to the quick rotation on its axis. The winds in its atmosphere reach speeds up to 1700 kilometers per hour! Saturn is known for its extensive ring system which is formed by a thousand individual rings. They are mainly composed of water ice and dust.

Uranus is unique in our solar system because it is tilted 98 degrees. When viewed from Earth, it appears to rotate on its side! At different times throughout its orbit, we can actually view one of the planet's poles head-on. The atmosphere is composed of hydrogen, helium, and methane. The temperature in the upper atmosphere is so cold that the methane condenses and forms a thin cloud layer which gives the planet its blue-green appearance. Uranus is the farthest planet from Earth that can be seen with the unaided eye but of course this can only happen on a clear, dark night.

Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun, and the outermost gas giant in our solar system. Interestingly enough due to Pluto's eccentric orbit, Neptune is sometimes the furthest planet from the Sun. Orbiting so far from it the planet receives very little heat. Its surface temperature is -218 degrees C. However, the planet seems to have an internal source of heat. Neptune's atmosphere has the highest wind speeds in the solar system, up to 2000 km/h. The planet has large, dark ovals on its surface which astronomers believe are hurricane-like storms.

Far far away, at the very edge of the Solar System lies Pluto, the ninth planet from the Sun. It is not only much smaller and less massive than every other planet, it is also smaller and less massive than seven moons of other planets. It has a highly eccentric orbit which takes it inside the orbit of Neptune. This caused some debate regarding whether Pluto should even be classified as a planet! It has one natural satellite, Charon, which is half the size of Pluto. Because they are comparable in size, many consider them to be a double planet.

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, and the second-smallest planet in the solar system! It is about the same size as our Moon. Mercury travels around the Sun faster than any other planet. That is how it got its name. It was named after Mercury, the swift messenger of the gods in ancient Greek mythology. It has a very thin atmosphere consisting of atoms blasted off its surface by the solar wind. Mercury's cratered surface appears very similar to the Moon. Its temperature variations are the most extreme in the solar system ranging from +427°C to -173°C.

Venus is the second planet from the Sun and the sixth largest. The name comes from the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Venus has been known since prehistoric times. It is the brightest object in the sky except for the Sun and the Moon. It was long thought of as the Earth's twin. Many believed that it contained a lush, earth-like environment. In reality the harsh conditions of Venus restrict our understanding of Earth's nearest neighbor. However, little by little, scientists are trying to unlock its secrets, uncovering the mysteries of the cloud-shrouded planet.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a 2011 American science fiction film directed by Rupert Wyatt. The film stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow and Andy Serkis. It is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series that will act as a foundation with an origin story for a new film series. Its premise is similar to the fourth film in the original series, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), but it is not a direct remake in that it does not fit into that series' continuity. It was released in the United States, Canada and India on August 5, 2011.
