Pure arkanoid is a game in the genre of “arcanoid clone”, a fact eve recognised in the very title of the game. Arcanoid is a popular arcade game from the 90's, in which you must use angle based physics to bounce a ball which starts on your platform, and has perpetually increasing speed, and then use these physics combined with the increasing speed (which serves mainly as a exponential increase in difficulty) to hit platforms which are on the level, and placed in various places in the stage, for you to destroy with the ball.

This is the basic game play of arcanoid, and as it takes very heavily from arcanoid, this applies heavily to pure arkanoid, with the exception of the speed mechanic being very minor, and the ball will not speed up very much at all as you progress, making each life last a lot longer, and making the general challenge of the game to be how many levels can you beat with your life set (of which you have 3) rather than to try and make your lives last as long as possible in each stage with increasing reflexes towards the end of each life in the game.

The control scheme for pure arkanoid is simple, and is one of those games which is controlled entirely with the mouse, as opposed to the keyboard (or controller) method used by most other arcanoid games, embracing the PC market for better or worse. The one problem with this system is laptop, net book or any other form of device without a mouse do suffer with these games, as using a track pad for precision movement is incredibly difficult for most gamers, and since pure arkanoid is a game which requires serious mouse movement skills, this definitely limits enjoyment of the game.

The difficulty level of the game is straight forward, as previously stated. There is a fixed number of levels, which you must race your way through with a limited number of lives. The levels do get more difficult as you progress through them, but for the most part the levels aren't particularly difficult, as I managed to beat the game with just two play throughs personally. The graphics aren't anything too great, but are very retro styled graphics, which considering the game is a very retro re make, is excusable, and may even be pleasant in the eyes of some.

The audio is also passable at most, with the same retro reason as both the cause and the excuse for it. Overall, pure arkanoid isn't a bad game, but as is the case with most games which clone other games, or take heavy influence from other games, doesn't really bring enough innovation to the table. You'll enjoy this game if you've ever enjoyed an arcanoid style game at any point in time. However, if you haven't enjoyed a arcanoid game clone before, maybe don't give it a shot. If you're on the fence  about downloading the game, give it a shot, for there is a great deal of fun to be had in the right hands.

You will have three lives throughout the game, but bonus lives can be earned with a special bonus that will randomly shoot out of the blocks. In general, an amusing way to kill some time. Control the platform by using the mouse. Esc button to Pause.
