Jewel quest (3) is a free ware downloadable game from Free Ride games, a game development studio with a fair number of high quality games on this website. Jewel quest isn't an exception to this rule. Jewel quest is essentially a clone of the classic concept of bejeweled, where you must switch objects around in a grid to try and line up three in a row. When three objects of the same colour and type are lined up to be in a row, all three dissapear, and you are awarded points accordingly.

The gameplay of jewel quest mirrors that of bejeweled pretty consistently, but for those of you unfamiliar with bejeweled here's a quick run down:
You are given a “board” of randomly placed shapes of many different colours.
You can switch any two of these shapes at will, with the intention being to get three in a row.
If you get three (or more) in a row, all three disappear and more shapes will fall down to fit the stage
If you do not have three in a row after a switch, the shapes will switch back, to prevent constant switching to get three in a row.

The slight variations that jewel quest adds to the basic formula of bejeweled are firstly that it has a bonus mode, where if you score a certain amount on a game you will go into bonus mode, where the stakes are higher and silver coins count for an insane number of points. Variations aside, the difficulty of the game is fairly average for a game of its nature, the game gets progressively harder as you go through with higher point thresholds needed and such, but the basic difficulty of simply switching the shapes at an effective speed remains the same, so the difficulty curve isn't as good as it perhaps should be

The controls of jewel quest are very standard, having the entire game controlled with the mouse, from switching objects to using the menus in game. In addition to being simple and standard, the controls are very responsive. The graphics of the game are very, very impressive for a free ware game, being  very serious and defined at the same time, even though the game is a 640x480 boxed game, so the game has definitely achieved something with that. The audio of the game is standard, there is no background music, just sounds played when you move shapes.

Overall, jewel quest 3 is a really entertaining game with a lot of fun to be had from it, and I personally had a massive amount of fun while playing it. However, the gameplay is a direct copy of bejeweled, so if you've ever played the original bejeweled or a variation of it you may find this game to be boring, but anyone looking for a fun, refreshing game that has not heard of bejeweled  may find the game to be very enjoyable, and definitely worth a download.
