The asterisk outlook dialer was born out of a need for a secure way to dial from MSOutlook via an asterisk server. Solutions we examined in the market were either not secure due to the fact that the Asterisk Manager password needed to be keyed into the Outlook component or were too bulky for what we were trying to do. On large installations, exposing the Asterisk Manager password was a *big* security risk (in our opionion at least) as well as an extra step needed for the administrator. We decided to implement our own MSOutlook dialer which would overcome the issue of both security and size of the component.

The Asterisk Manager Suite (AMS) is a collection of software; an abstraction library called Asterisk Manager Interface (AMI), a proxy daemon called Asterisk Manager Proxy (AMP), and a gui client interface called Asterisk Manager Administrator (AMA). The intention of the software is to make management and administration of the Asterisk Open Source PBX easier. The software is currently targeted at corporate environments with call centers but plans for further expansion exist. The C library, libami (AMI) is intended to make executing commands through Asterisk's Manager Interface easier.

The "asterisk-oh323" package adds H.323 support to the ASTERISK soft PBX. This is achieved by interfacing the OpenH323 library to ASTERISK through an appropriate channel driver (loadable ASTERISK module). The package provides the channel driver as well as a wrapper, in a shared library form, which incarnates the bridge between the C implementation of the OpenH323 library and the C implemented ASTERISK. This software is still under development and improvement towards a stable and full featured software, but it works without many problems.
