El Ingenioso Hidalgo, comunmente conocido por Don Quijote de la Mancha (El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha), es una novela española de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra .
Sigue las aventuras de Alonso Quijano, un hidalgo que lee tantos libros de caballerías que decide convertirse en caballero andante bajo el nombre de Don Quijote. Recluta a un simple granjero, Sancho Panza , como su escudero, que a menudo emplea un ingenio único, terrenal en el trato con oraciones retóricas de Don Quijote sobre anticuada caballería .
Don Quijote se encuentra con el mundo tal como es, iniciando temas como la intertextualidad , realismo , metateatro y representación literaria .
Publicado en dos volúmenes, en 1605 y 1615, Don Quijote se considera la obra más influyente de la literatura del Siglo de Oro español y de todo el canon literario español.
El quijote es una obra fundacional de la literatura occidental moderna, y una de las primeras novelas canónicas, que aparece regularmente en lo alto de las listas de las más grandes obras de ficción jamás publicados.
Ha tenido gran influencia en la comunidad literaria, como lo demuestran las referencias directas en Alejandro Dumas en Los tres mosqueteros (1844) y Mark Twain con aventuras de Huckleberry Finn (1884).
En 2002 , Don Quijote fue nombrado como la "mejor obra literaria que se ha escrito".
