SQLObject is an object-relational mapper, that can be used to wrap your database tables in Python classes and your rows in Python instances.
SQLObject includes a Python-object-based query language that makes SQL more abstract and provides substantial database independence for applications.
SQLObject currently supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Firebird, MaxDB (SAP DB), MS SQL Sybase and Rdbhost. Python should be supported back to version 2.4.

virtualenv is a tool to create isolated Python environments. The basic problem being addressed is one of dependencies and versions, and indirectly permissions. Imagine you have an application that needs version 1 of LibFoo, but another application requires version 2. How can you use both these applications?
